1st Annual "Mission Possible" Challenge
Moustache madness! Ray says goodbye and Richard says hello. SEICO Insurance held an inter office fundraising challenge called ‘Mission Possible’ where six departments competed to raise the largest amount of money; each team was given £20 to put towards their plan. We were astonished that the total amount raised was £3,378, some of the innovative ideas used were sponsored moustache removal and growing! Homemade cherry brandy for staff, cake stalls, homemade produce, Christmas fair stall, school cake stand, raffle, card making and coffee morning. This was a great fundraising exercise which all the staff enjoyed and have decided to make an annual event. In the new year the office will chose a project to fund from the money raised.
We are happy to confirm that the Mission Impossible proceeds went towards the Shika project. Shika/WIA After School Centre: The Shika Funding Project in Tansania, are a team of volunteers who are working to open an after school centre in Arusha for disadvantaged children. Many of these children have lost parents and siblings to AIDS and HIV, and they live with extended families in poor and difficult circumstances. Please click here for full details…
Shine Theatre Trust, a charity that provides inclusive theatre to children in Sussex.
2nd Annual "Mission Possible" Challenge Seico Insurance second inter-office fundraising challenge “Mission Possible” took place over the Christmas and New Year period. The challenge provides an opportunity for team building as departments competed to raise the largest amount. Seico staff created many fun and innovative ways to raise funds such as making cakes and ice-cream, preparing lunches, jewellery sales, a raffle, santa letters and a no Christmas card appeal. The total amount raised was an amazing £871.33. All proceeds have been sent to Shine Theatre Trust, a charity that provides inclusive theatre to children in Sussex. The money will go towards rehearsal costs, props, costumes, outings and any special equipment that may be needed for the group.
Fundraising Quiz Night The Trust's first Quiz Night - April 2009 1 picture The Trust hosted it first Quiz Night which proved to be a great success and lots of fun. We welcomed over 100 participants and a great evening was had by all. A special thanks to Kevin our quizmaster, The Hove & Kingsway Bowling Club, those who provided the fantastic prize donations for the raffle and everybody who attended for their generous support. We raised an amazing £1,113! the proceeds of which have helped to fund a short break for 30 children from ‘Pebbles', a local voluntary group for families with disabled children aged 4-14. We have had tremendous feedback and plan to make the Quiz Night an annual event.
‘The Slayers St Georges Day' Patron Frank Maloney organised ‘The Slayers St Georges Day' boxing event at The Troxy, raising a fantastic £12,500 for the Trust. Attendees of the event included Terry Marsh, Chris Ellison, Zoe Robinson, Michael Watson, a Chaz and Dave Tribute band and Del Boy- direct from Peckam. Staff at Seico had a wonderful evening, which hosted five rounds of boxing and an auction. The Trust are very grateful to Frank for his tremendous support, and every single penny we received will go directly to our projects. Thank you so much Frank.
Car wash and cake stall for 'CHOCS' There is a section of the charity called CHOCS which stands for Children Helping Other Children Smile! So we organised a car wash and cake stall and raffle with our friends Georgia and Louis, and raised a whopping £273 in one day! The money we raised has paid for a little girl in Worthing who has been sick with cancer for a TV/DVD player for her room whilst she recovers and vouchers for her 5 year old brother who has had to be good whilst shes sick. Loads of local shops and business`s donated prizes which really helped us. Next month we are doing a raffle and cake stall at our school for the Martlets as we really don`t want to forget their wonderful work. The photos shown below are of Zachary, Ryan, Georgia and Louis washing the cars and the other is of Zachary, Ryan, Georgia, louis and Thomas at their stall. A big thank you to Zachary, Ryan, Georgia, Louis and Thomas.
The Edward Starr Charitable Trust's Barn Dance Just under £2000 was raised at the Edward Starr Charitable Trust’s Barn Dance on the 12th September 2009. The evening was a huge hit with everyone who turned up in their cowboy boots, hats and turned the Hangleton Community Centre into a room full of shin digging cowboys and girls! Thank you for everyone who dosey doed the night away, and to band ‘One The Rum’ who were fantastic. Also thanks to Hampers of Hurst and John Lewis for donating wonderful raffle prizes, the staff at Hangleton Community Centre who were fantastic, the Trust’s helpers who served drinks and sold raffle tickets, and ‘Food Glorious Food’ for their tasty bangers and mash! Pebbles and Shika projects received £500 each from this event to go towards their wonderful work. To view the pictures from the evening please click here
Sky Dive for the Trust
Team members: Jean Paul, Jonathan Dodd, Raoul Strachan, Andrea Gerard, Parminder Brar, Gavin Pomfret & Chris Gutsell. Jean Paul from Bournemouth and his work colleagues raised a fantastic total of £615 for the Trust with a sky dive on 26th September. Please see below an account from Jean Paul. We are so grateful for Jean and his colleagues raising money for the Trust, every penny of which will go to a children’s project. THANK YOU Jean Paul!!!!!!! Jean Paul says: "I was delighted with the whole thing - it was great fun - and I'm pleased I raised a bit of cash too." "I can tell you that it's quite a feeling to roll forwards out of a 'plane, 2 1/2 miles up, and tumble over before dropping at 120mph :-). It's really noisy for about 40 seconds until, when the 'chute opens, you decelerate SO fast you wouldn't believe, and then it goes quiet. Aaah! The remaining 3 or 4 minutes was great, but you still approach the ground at about 45 degrees and 20-30mph, which makes landing a bit of fun! Wonderful. I'll do it again I'm sure. I met some people who'd done 3 or 4,000 jumps - that must be as many times as I've driven my car in the last 10 years".
Family Quiz Day - 29th November The family quiz day held at St Peters Church Hall, Hangleton. Put on by Zachary and Ryan Narvaez and Georgia and Louis Morris. Thanks to the kind people who run the hall, Mike and Gill Evans who kindly paid the hall rental costs. Also thanks to Forfar’s who donated a large amount of cakes to the event. The quiz was hosted by Kevin and his wife Maggie who worked really hard to make it a fun and profitable event and also wouldn`t charge for their services. There were many prizes donated for the raffle with thanks Lagoon Watersports, Southern Trains ,Marwell Zoo, Paradise Park, Hever Castle ,Leeds castle, Amberley Working Museum, Drusillas Wildlife Park, Paradise Wildlife park, Spinnaker Tower, Boots the chemist, Entertainer toy shop, WHSmiths and Morrisons. Also a very big thank you to David Jenkins, the writer of Rory the Racing Car for the Rory the Racing car bike which was auctioned for £21.00!. And too all of the family and friends of Zachary, Ryan, Georgia and Louis for helping run the event, set up, made cakes and organize it all. All of this added up to a sizeable amount of £1056.84 which is to be split between The Martlets Hospice and The Edward Starr Charitable Trust. £528.42 each charity. A lot of hard work went into this event so huge well done to Zachary, Ryan, Georgia and Louis! To view images of the evenings events - please click here
Brooks Brighton 10k run On Sunday 15th November 2009 we were extremely proud of our ‘magnificent eleven’ runners who joined the 3,000 participants in the Brooks Brighton 10k on Brighton seafront. Our first runner home was Lewis Keating in a time of 49.38mins which was an amazing achievement – well done! The runners have collectively raised an amazing £…….. (TBC). All funds raised will go directly to support projects to ‘help a child smile’. emma-coombs-running-image.jpg Jamie-hannah-rebecca-image1.jpg lou-nev-running-image.jpg Emma Coombs Jamie, Hannah & Rebecca Lou & Nev A special thank you to Chris Carter for his support with this event. Many of the runners have expressed their desire to run for the Trust again next year, if you are interested in joining in please do not hesitate to contact our Trust team. DONE IT!
Neil with Charlotte and Jonnie Charlotte Morris "Running the Brooks Brighton 10K was physically and mentally challenging for me, and probably the other 3000 people running alongside (with exception to the athletes who charged on, completing the run in 23 minutes!!). However along the way, determination was fueled by the thought of all the money this event was raising for charity, and in particular seeing the other fellow Edward Starr charity runners battling it out too! I finished the run in a solid 1hour 10minutes- which I was very happy with!! AND I came in one minute before my Dad, bonus!! (Maybe this was due to the fact that I needed a little nudging over the finish line from him haha!) Anyway, I was so pleased that I completed the run and raised about £200- I have hung my medals up in all their glory- and I will definitely be getting involved with more fundraising for the Edward Starr Charity in the future!" Neil Morris "Woodward J, Morris Senior & Junior rocked up at the start line with plenty of time to spare (9.59 I think), only to realise that the race numbers didn't stick, but had to be pinned to our T-shirts. Once this small technical glitch had been overcome, it was on with the business of winning the race. We set off with the Sun on our faces and the wind at our backs, perfect! Well, perfect for the first 500 metres anyway. Then the moaning really started. "My legs hurt, I'm hot, my boobs hurt!" "Oh shut up Dad and get on with it" came the unsympathetic reply. Needless to say, the Kenyans were not troubled in the slightest by us 3, but the bloke dressed as a pair of Testicles was blown away by our sprint finish. Still, we all survived and the Edward Starr Charitable Trust is more than 400 better off as a result." rebecca-running-image.jpg neil-with-charlotte-image.jpg jonnie-image.jpg Rebecca Neil with Charlotte Jonnie
